1. Domain Name
2. Authorization code to have the domain transferred to Grassroots.org. Be sure the domain is unlocked!
3. Name you wish to appear on your IRS tax receipt-of-donation letter (ie. individual name or company name)
Step II: Sale
Domains are held in escrow by SnapNames until sale through either the SnapNames Live Auction or the daily online auction.Sale Details
Step III: Domain Receipt
Donor receives a receipt-of-donation letter from Grassroots.org acknowledging the value of the donation for tax purposes, based on appraisal or auction value. Appraisal Details
Domains estimated to be valued at or over $1000 will be appraised for you. We are happy to have the domains estimated to be valued under $1000 appraised if the donor would like to cover the appraisal fee. Within 7 days of the domain donation, the donor will receive an email stating whether the domain was estimated to be over or under $1000 (and thus whether Grassroots.org will cover the appraisal fee). If the domain is appraised, within 16 days of the domain donation, the donor will receive an email stating the appraised value of the domain.
An experienced appraiser of domain names will determine the fair market value of your donated domain. Within 30 days of the sale of your domain, you will receive an email from Grassroots.org defining your domain donation to Grassroots.org and stating either the appraised value or the sale price of the domain (whichever amount is higher). Please speak to your tax adviser to ensure you receive the maximum benefit of your domain donation.
All domain donors will be included on our public list of donors. If you do not wish to be recognized, please Notify Us.
Your domain will be placed into escrow at SnapNames until it is sold. SnapNames will make final determinations of which domains are placed in the live auction, or the daily online auction.
